BrumPHP is a tech community event that helps its members network and socialise, as well as giving insights into what our members are passionate about.

First of all, thank you for helping make this a welcoming, friendly event for all.

We value the participation of every member of the tech community and want you all to have an enjoyable experience. In line with this, everyone is expected to show respect and courtesy to others.

Organisers, guests, speakers and sponsors at any BrumPHP event must follow the Code of Conduct throughout.

Our Standards

BrumPHP is dedicated to providing a positive experience for everyone, regardless of age, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, ethnicity, nationality, race, religion or lack thereof, education, or socio-economic status.

Examples of behavior that contributes to creating a positive environment include:

• Being kind to others

• Being respectful of differing viewpoints and experiences

• Behaving professionally

• Communicating in a respectful and dignified manner

• Using welcoming and inclusive language

• Gracefully accepting constructive criticism

• Focusing on what is best for the community

• Empathy towards other community members

Examples of unacceptable behavior by participants include:

• Harassment of event participants in any form

• Failing to respect someone’s sensibilities around COVID-19 including, but not limited to, wearing personal protective equipment.

• Deliberate intimidation, stalking, or following

• Violent threats or language directed against another person

• Sexual language and imagery in any conference venue, including talks

• Insults or put downs

• Sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist, or exclusionary jokes

• Excessive swearing

• Use of offensive language when asked to refrain

• Unwelcome sexual attention or advances

• Unwelcome physical contact

• Sustained disruption of talks or other events

Other conduct that is inappropriate for a professional audience including people of many different backgrounds

We expect that anyone asked to stop inappropriate behaviour will comply immediately.

If an attendee engages in behaviour that violates our code of conduct, we will take any action that we deem appropriate, including warning the offender or expulsion from the event.

Scope

All BrumPHP attendees are subject to the Code of Conduct, whether a sponsor, guest, speaker or an organiser. This code applies to those attending in person as well as to anyone participating through the online chat facility.

If you believe that someone is violating the code of conduct during a BrumPHP event, or have any other concerns, please contact us immediately. Organisers will be clearly identifiable at an in- person event and there will be moderators online.
